Senior Software Engineer
iT1 Nucleos builds AchieveDXP, a digital experience platform that unifies identity, security, analytics, and learning records across the dozens of web applications that education and workforce programs already use, including apps that have no API, SSO, or standard data export. We power learning in some of the most restricted environments in the country: state departments of corrections, county jails, juvenile justice, and reentry and workforce programs. Today we serve 15,000+ learners across 55+ facilities in 11 states, with 190+ integrated applications, and we are expanding fast into adult education and workforce development.
Nucleos is now part of iT1, a technology solutions company with 20+ years in the business. That backing gives us the stability of an established parent and the pace of an early-stage company. We are past product-market fit and scaling: our job over the next few years is to take the platform and the business through the kind of growth curve a venture-backed company runs from Series B into Series C, with real revenue, real customers, and a mission that matters.
This work matters. Our mission is to expand access to education and real economic opportunity for people who have too often been shut out of it. Behind every number is a real person earning a credential, building a resume, and moving toward a better life: reaching their career goals, finding work with better pay and higher job satisfaction, and, for the justice-involved learners we serve, building stability and reducing the odds they return to the system. Education is one of the strongest levers we have for every one of those outcomes, and the software you help build is how it reaches people who otherwise have no access to it. That social impact is the reason the company exists, and it is what makes the hard technical constraints worth solving.
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, delivering, and supporting complex capabilities across the iT1 Nucleos AchieveDXP platform. This position serves as a senior individual contributor with broad full-stack ownership and is accountable for translating ambiguous business and technical requirements into secure, reliable, production-ready solutions. The role supports the continued scale of a digital experience platform used by education, workforce, and justice-sector programs and is expected to expand in technical scope, mentorship, and leadership responsibility as the engineering organization grows.
Essential Functions:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support production features across the full technology stack, including a React and TypeScript front end, Node.js and Express APIs, PostgreSQL, a Rust network-proxy layer, and the AchieveDXP content-integration framework.
- Own significant platform components and technical initiatives from architecture and design through implementation, deployment, monitoring, reliability, and ongoing improvement.
- Develop and operationalize AI-enabled capabilities, including large language model features, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluations, model selection, guardrails, and secure data-handling patterns.
- Maintain secure and reliable services for multi-tenant, per-facility deployments in Azure Kubernetes environments using technologies such as Helm, Terraform, ArgoCD, containers, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, engineering standards, code reviews, testing practices, technical documentation, and the identification and resolution of platform risks.
- Partner with product, implementation, customer-facing, and engineering stakeholders to clarify requirements, explain technical tradeoffs, and deliver solutions that address user and business needs.
- Participate in the redesign and continued scaling of AchieveDXP to support increased usage and expansion into adult education and workforce development programs.
- Mentor engineers, share technical knowledge, and help strengthen a distributed, high-trust engineering culture.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Advanced proficiency with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js, relational database design, API design, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with cloud-native development and operations, including containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices.
