Our Values: Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department: Engineering Operations Job Summary: Under minimal supervision, the Stationary Engineer III is responsible for starting up, regulating, repairing, monitoring, and shutting down Central Utility Plant equipment. Monitor meters, gauges, and computerized controls to ensure that equipment operates safely and within established limits. Use sophisticated electrical and electronic test equipment when servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, and monitoring heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Essential Functions: - Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment, such as steam engines, air compressors, generators, motors, turbines, chillers, cooling towers, and steam boilers, to provide utilities, such as light, heat, or power, for buildings and industrial processes. (20%) - Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions. (10%) - Records data, such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, analysis of flue gases, voltage load, and generator balance. (10%) - Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment. (10%) - Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication. (10%) - Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components, using hand tools and power tools. (10%) - Perform water titration tests and pour chemical additives, such as water softener, into treatment tank to prevent scale buildup and clean boiler lines. (10%) - Record operation and maintenance actions taken during shifts in the operator’s logbook. (10%) - Specialize in equipment designed for industrial processes and be designated Acid-Concentration-Plant-Equipment Engineer; Air-Compressor-Station Engineer; Diesel-Engine Operator, Stationary; Water-Pumping-Station Engineer. (10%) Education: High School Diploma or GED required Work Experience: - 3 years of operational experience in a boiler plant required - AND 3 years of operational experience in a chiller plant required Licenses: - ENG-Stationary Engineer - Tradesmen International required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. - Skill in obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work. - Ability to read blueprints, schematics, specifications, and technical drawings. - Knowledge of computerized monitoring software for Central Utility Plants.
