Reliability Engineer (w/d/m) Reliability Management
Your tasks Our Reliability Management team at the nextbike headquarters in Leipzig is responsible for maximizing the performance and lifetime of our hardware. We develop and implement strategies to extend the lifetime of our fleet, reduce total cost of ownership and proactively prevent failures. The team coordinates relevant stakeholders to address vehicle issues and drive improvement initiatives. We implement scalable and cost-efficient solutions and promote a proactive, data-driven reliability culture. What to expect in this role: You will own and manage our reliability engineering activities for the hardware across the entire nextbike fleet (bicycles, e-bikes as well as electronic and mechanical subsystems). Perform structured Root Cause Analyses (RCA), identify failure mechanisms and derive corrective actions. Develop and implement strategies to improve performance, durability and total cost of ownership. Plan, execute and evaluate tests (lab, field and environmental tests). Maintain reliability KPIs, reporting dashboards and performance metrics. Work closely with our teams from Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain and external development partners to prioritize and resolve field issues. Support our product development with design-for-reliability inputs. Create and maintain SOPs, technical guidelines and documentation. Promote continuous improvement of the quality, lifetime and serviceability of our bicycles. Your profile Completed technical Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a comparable field). Very good English skills (C1); German skills are an advantage. Proven 3+ years of professional experience in reliability engineering, product testing, quality management, mechanical development or comparable areas. Solid understanding of mechanical systems, materials, fatigue mechanisms and product lifecycle—ideally in the bicycle industry. Practical experience in failure analysis, test methods, structured problem solving and RCA methods (e.g. 5-Why, Ishikawa, FMEA). Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and tailored to the audience. Experience with data analysis tools and basic statistical methods for reliability assessment. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation. Practical experience handling hardware in the lab, workshop and field—ideally with bicycles. Organized, proactive and detail-oriented working style; ability to manage multiple topics simultaneously. Interest in micromobility, engineering and sustainable hardware solutions is an advantage. Willingness to work on-site (ideally 3 days per week) at our headquarters in Leipzig-Plagwitz. Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
