About the company Zen Educate is an EdTech platform that connects teachers, schools, and internal teams to streamline the process of providing the right personnel at the right time. The company is well-established in the United Kingdom and growing rapidly in the United States. The platform supports teachers in their job search, helps schools manage both short-term and long-term staffing needs, and optimizes internal processes for efficient matching of supply and demand. Since 2017, Zen Educate claims to have helped UK schools save over £50 million. The design team is small, strongly mission-oriented, and works cross-functionally on end-to-end product solutions with real user impact. Responsibilities End-to-end responsibility for addressing problems — from discovery to product delivery. Design flows, systems, and interfaces that are simple, scalable, and high-quality. Work closely with customers: gain deep insights into teachers, schools, and internal teams. Conduct research and gather insights via interviews, observation, data, and product usage. Translate findings into concrete actions and help shape the direction of product development. Create quick feedback loops: utilize prototypes, discussions, and live experiments. Rapid prototyping and validating ideas using modern (including AI-enabled) tools. Bring ideas to life beyond static designs — exploring interaction, logic, and behavior in real environments. Collaborate deeply with engineering and product management, increasingly contributing directly to implementation. Balance priorities between speed and quality, delivering early and iterating consistently. Consolidate knowledge and share it across the team to avoid silos. Mentor other designers and enhance quality standards within the team. Requirements Experience Level: Senior Product Designer with proven work on end-to-end product solutions. Strong skills in user research, synthesis of insights, and deriving product decisions. Experience with rapid prototyping methods and modern tools — willingness to use AI-enabled tools included. Technical aptitude; comfortable working closely with engineers and occasionally contributing to implementation (not a pure developer role). Excellent communication and collaboration skills with PMs and engineering. Mentoring ability and skills to elevate the design maturity within the team. Willingness to operate in a hybrid work model (3 days per week on-site at the location) and adapt to a growth-oriented, dynamic environment. Benefits Hybrid work model: located in Chicago with 3 days per week on-site presence. Competitive, fair compensation (variable based on local market; not always top-tier salary). Strong growth and development opportunities: creative freedom, technical depth, and career development based on impact. High degree of responsibility, low bureaucracy, and opportunities to shape processes and design systems. Mission-driven work with direct impact on education outcomes. Inclusive company culture focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Fast, transparent hiring process with constructive feedback upon request.
