Your tasks We are looking for a new colleague for our Art & Design department in Berlin from 01.10.2026 on a part-time basis (20 h/week) who shares our vision of excellent education and is committed to changing the lives of our students and staff. The position is initially limited to two years, with the possibility of extension. The position: Become a member of a forward-looking institution as a Professor* at the Berlin campus of the UE. We are looking for a passionate educator and creative practitioner with pronounced artistic skills and the ability to integrate theory and practice, who prepares students for careers in expressive Game Design and development. In this exciting role you will offer engaging modules, use your expertise to build connections to the real world, and foster an inclusive learning experience that values diverse perspectives and artistic exploration. You will work in a creative and supportive environment that promotes innovative projects as well as artistic research and teaching. You will play a decisive role in delivering high-quality, future-oriented education that enables students to develop the skills and mindset they need to succeed in a globalized and rapidly evolving world. Your contributions will have a lasting impact on the academic careers of your students and support the further growth of the university and its vibrant international community. Main activities and responsibilities: Teaching introductory and advanced courses in fundamental design and computational concepts, basics of computer science and software architecture, as well as technical and creative implementation of computer games, combining theoretical content with artistic and technological practice Planning and conducting interdisciplinary research and development projects Grading student work and supervising seminars, projects, Bachelor's and Master's theses, ensuring high academic and didactic standards Building collaborations and partnerships with industry Participating in university administration and committee work and actively supporting the success of the UE Advising prospective students and participating in UE public relations activities Contributing to the design of new degree programs and the continuous development of existing curricula Actively shaping the Game Design program, including strategic, organizational and academic development, and willingness to take on organizational duties, e.g., as program coordinator* or degree program director* Interdisciplinary collaboration with related programs at the UE Requirements for the professorship: Completed university studies with a Master's degree or an equivalent qualification in Game Design, Game Development, Interactive Media, Design or Computer Science or a related field At least three years of qualified professional experience, of which at least two years outside a university, in the subject area of the professorship or a related field Proof of one of the following: Special artistic achievements during at least two years of successful professional activity relevant to the subject area of the professorship (where applicable demonstrable by an external expert opinion on special aptitude for artistic work) OR proof of special aptitude for scholarly work, usually demonstrated by the quality of the PhD and/or the quality of scientific publications Your profile Experience in teaching fundamental design and computational concepts, basics of computer science and software architecture, and the technical and creative implementation of computer games Reputation in the conception and implementation of expressive computer games for various platforms Solid understanding of current developments in the games industry, the digitalization of media and their social and cultural impacts, with the ability for critical reflection and interdisciplinary experience A strong sense for the artistic and creative potential of digital games and interactive media and their social and cultural relevance, with enthusiasm for experimenting with technological and creative designs Ability to implement digital games and prototypes in industry-standard development environments (e.g., Game Engines, version control software) National and international professional experience Extensive network within the local (Berlin and German) games industry Ability to teach courses in English (German is an advantage) Publication and research activities are a major plus Strong communication and teamwork skills Commitment to applied research, student engagement and curriculum innovation Willingness to further train in higher education didactic teaching methods Why us?
