We create the infrastructure, tools, frameworks, and capabilities needed to serve a billion customers. The Platform Developer Experience (PDX) team builds the infrastructure and internal products that control how Spotify engineers deliver software. Within PDX, the Wingspan team develops the next generation of fleet management, works on interactions with AI agents, and brings these capabilities to market via Portal, Spotify's external developer platform based on Backstage. Responsibilities Lead and grow a team developing AI-native backend systems to orchestrate large-scale, autonomous fleet changes. Define the technical vision for integrating LLM-based reasoning and agent-based execution into production infrastructure. Architect systems where AI agents analyze service metadata, create safe change plans, execute updates, and validate results. Build safety boundaries, evaluation frameworks, and observability models for AI-driven automation at scale. Promote responsible AI use through governance, auditability, and human-in-the-loop safeguards. Balance rapid experimentation and platform reliability to meet production standards. Work with product and go-to-market teams to position Portal and AI fleet management as a leading developer platform. Foster a team culture of curiosity, technical rigor, and continuous learning in emerging AI systems. Requirements At least 3 years of experience leading engineering teams working on distributed systems or developer platforms at scale. At least 5 years of backend engineering experience with strong expertise in Java, Python and/or Node.js. Experience integrating AI/ML systems, LLMs, agent frameworks, or AI-assisted tools into real systems. Understanding of how autonomous systems make decisions and how to design guardrails for safety, reliability, and traceability. Systems thinking about data flows, model behavior, orchestration layers, and operational impact. Comfort leading in evolving technical domains with immature patterns. Ability to create inclusive work environments and to communicate clearly with engineers, product owners, and leaders about the opportunities and risks of AI-driven systems.
